College Essentials
Big congrats to all the future dawgs out there! Get ready for an awesome four (or five) years! Heading off to college is a major transition and requires a great deal of thoughtful preparation.
So, with such a serious transition in mind, here are three not-so-serious but oh-so-essential things you need to learn before setting foot on campus this fall.
1) Learn how to throw a frisbee.
The stereotypes are all true. Young college kids throwing little discs around on the green grassy quad on a beautiful day actually does happen. I know, I was in shock too! Everywhere you go, there will be frisbees. Tailgates, outdoor social events, and hanging out with people never reach their full potential without frisbees. No pressure to get all technical with forehand throws or ground skips, but you should start learning the basics ASAP! Like this weekend.
2) Learn (or at least attempt to learn) how to dance.
Swing dancing (you know, with a partner), line dancing (think “wobble”), and crazy rage dancing (think dub step) are all included in this category. Dancing is absolutely 100% essential in college. And it’s awesome. I’m honestly one of the last people I thought would be saying such a thing, but it’s so true. Gone are the days of proms and homecomings, where no one really knows how they should be dancing. In college, it’s a whole different ball game. You don’t have to be graceful and swift (trust me, I’m not), just intentional in enjoying the experience with friends. It’ll be a highlight of your year.
3) Learn how to play Spike Ball.
Ladies and gentleman, this is the collegiate game of champions. Flag football is fun, ultimate frisbee is cool, volleyball is a blast, but all who claim to be great must prove themselves worthy through their spike ball ability. If you’ve never heard of such a game, think foursquare meets volleyball. Sounds fun, right? It is! This summer, get a spike ball set, grab some friends, and start getting a feel for the game that will change the way you think about recreational sports forever.
So there you go! Caleb’s keys to college. Master these three things and you’ll be well on your way to a successful college career!
You excited yet?
Ok, maybe not.
I guess I did forget about a few other important things like, you know, school and stuff. Stay tuned for some actual ideas on making freshman year awesome. But still, you should learn these things above!
