Dancing in the Rain
The Dawgs play Alabama tomorrow. We’re undefeated. They’re (almost) undefeated. 3:30 primetime game on CBS and the sky is gonna pour all day long.
You get the picture. It’s about to get crazy up in here.
This atmosphere isn’t new to Georgia football. I was at the 2007 Blackout against Auburn. It was insane. Two years ago, when we beat #6 Carolina and then #6 LSU in back-to-back weeks, everything was absolutely nuts. Even last year was crazy when we got our revenge against Clemson and blew them out in the season opener.
But I’ll be honest.
I have a hard time enjoying these types of games. Yeah, I’m with all my good friends and the stadium is rocking and everything is hype, but I can’t enjoy the game. I’m too nervous. Too tense and uptight. My voice is horse from yelling when we’re on defense and screaming at our mistakes and shouting for joy when we score. My joy is literally tied to the game. Which isn’t good. I wrote about that last year.
Sometimes it’s not even fun. Not to mention the fact that every year we find a way to blow it. We get our hopes high on UGA football and they come crashing down. Just like almost every other school in the nation.
So here’s a thought…. let’s just enjoy. Let’s enjoy each other’s company. There’s nothing like the student section at Sanford Stadium. We never sit down. Never stop yelling. And (most of us) never leave early. The passion is awesome.
You and I have no control over who ultimately wins or loses. If we win the SEC east, awesome. If we choke and go 8-4 on the season, bummer. It’s still Georgia Football. It’s still an incredible experience. It’s still memories with all of our friends.
It’s still awesome. So let’s enjoy it and see it for what it is.
Let’s yell and sing and dance in the rain tomorrow as we enjoy another meeting Between the Hedges.
